The idea for this series of twelve drawings began to form some years ago in London at the Royal Festival Hall during an Easter performance of Bach's St. Matthew Passion.
These A2 drawings have been made using oil bar, oil pastel, and graphite, on top of collage that includes small fragments of pages from a pocket Bible. Each has been an attempt to tell the extraordinary through the ordinary – unremarkable objects that surround me in my home and studio, some decorative, some practical, some with a history within my family.
The series of twelve drawings begins with The Last Supper, and ends with the Entombment of Jesus's body. They are not the traditional Stations of the Cross, but share that sequential narrative, depicting events of the Passion of Christ as variously described in the four Gospels.
The exhibition ran from 2nd March - 1st May 2022 in St Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh
